The book I like the most and love to read is the Holy Bhagavad Gita. Bhagavad Gita is one of the books retarded as the holiest in the world. Like Taurait, Zaboor, Injeel and Quran, it is also considered divine by Hindus. In fact it is one of the greatest book so far produced. Thoreau, the American Philosopher claims I bathe my intellect with Bhagavad Gita every morning.
It is a surprise that the greatest scholars on Gita are not Hindus but Christians. It has been translated in to nearly all the languages of the world. It is also surprising that Hindu scholars came to love Gita through European sources. The holy book contains philosophical teachings. It comprises of the teachings of Lord Krishna to the war frightened Arjunna. The teachings are considered to be as trite to-day as they were during the days of Pandavas. Arjuna, the great warrior, was hesitating to fight against his Kinsmen, and Lord Kirshna advised him that it was his duty to fight and shrinking from duty was a sin.
The entire holy book comprises of six hundred and ninety four verses categorized into eighteen chapters. In the last chapter Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that a man can realize God if lie abstain from adultery, false hood, deceptions, frauds, oppressions, violence’s etc, if he shrinks from the acts performed for the satisfaction of worldly desires, renounces worldly thirst for honour, fame, social prestige and wealth etc, renounces the habit of extracting service from others with a selfish motive, performs all duties without any expectations of return, renders his daily services in all possible way to parents, teachers and other persons, tries to preserve his body, and works to eke honest living to maintain his family, worships God, performs sacrifices, gives charities, lead moral life and do such other thing.
